Glimstedt, which is operating in the Baltics and Sweden, has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Ilyashev & Partners, one of the largest and most acclaimed law firms in Ukraine.
Cooperation negotiations started in the autumn of 2021 and after the start of the war, the need to cooperate became even more urgent.
This new partnership will expand opportunities for Glimstedt to provide legal services not only to its current clients in the European Union, but also to carry out together with the offices of Ilyashev & Partners projects and services in business law on such territories of Ukraine as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Odessa, where Ilyashev & Partners have offices.
“Close cooperation with Glimstedt will make it possible for us to provide additional services to our clients and to assist Baltic and Scandinavian companies with their arrival to Ukraine for post-war reconstruction. We, just like our clients, believe in the EU membership prospects for Ukraine and in the opportunities that lie ahead,” notes Mikhail Ilyashev, Managing Partner of Ilyashev & Partners.
According to Randu Riiberg, Partner at Glimstedt, such partnership with Ukraine’s largest law firm and its lawyers who are leaders in the litigation practice opens entirely new opportunities for the development of business projects and gives clients a clear competitive advantage. “Based on long-term international experience, we provide legal assistance to our clients globally. Now we have a reliable partner in Ukraine as well. Understandably, the war was not the reason to start cooperation, when the negotiations started in the autumn in 2021. At the same time, it is clear that in the light of the developments that have taken place, the Baltics and Scandinavia will play an important role between Ukraine and the rest of the world. Today, Glimstedt has a unique opportunity to be among the first to invest in Ukraine already during the war. We trust our partners (Ilyashev & Partners) and also recommend them to our clients as well,” says Randu Riiberg.
In view of today’s challenges facing Ukrainian and foreign businesses, Ilyashev & Partners and Glimstedt are united by their common goal to provide their clients with the widest range of great quality legal services.
According to Egidijus Bernotas, Partner at Glimstedt Lithuania who was accompanying a delegation of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce to Kyiv, Ukraine is expected to go not only through a long reconstruction process but also to encounter legal challenges in adapting its legal system to EU requirements. “Business, which is essential to market recovery, responds very sensitively to these processes. Such close liaison between the law firms is an excellent tool to ensure the balance and to move forward,” says Egidijus Bernotas.
Glimstedt Law Firm was founded in 1935 and has today more than 250 lawyers in 13 offices in Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm was founded in 1997 and has a staff of over 120 people in Kiev, Tallinn, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Odessa.
